The Migration of Chukchi and their Dogs:
The constant companion of the Siberian Husky, are the people in Siberia known as the Chukchi. The Chukchi did not always live in Siberia however, so logic would dictate that perhaps the Siberian Husky did not in the beginning either. Originally thought to have migrated from East Asia, the Siberian Husky that is complementary to their people, was most likely a mix of similar dogs that they crossed paths with along the way. The Chukchi themselves, preferred to breed with outsiders. Why would they not practice these same ideals with their dog population?
New evidence from genetic marker research indicates that this is only a part of the story. A genetic marker in the Y chromosome found in the Chukchi people, is absent in a large percent of the Asian population. However, this same marker has been identified in the Native American population. The evidence suggests that the marker was passed from the Alaskan side into Asia and not the other way around. If this hypothesis holds true after further research, it would be logical to conclude that that Alaskan dogs figure partly in the dogs that are found in Siberia.
